Wanting to fit in but being unable to find your niche can be a downer. As an autistic person that has pretty much been my story. I needed a way to express the creativity bubbling away inside.

I fell into photography accidentally through my love for mechanical things, in particular, second-hand cameras. I am a natural born ‘tinker’ with a curious mind that never stops asking questions.

Initially, cameras were something I collected from charity shops and Saturday morning garage sales. I would take them apart to see how they worked, and they would inevitably end up in a hundred pieces on my lounge room floor. It wasn’t until I actually started taking photos that my inborn talent for photography was discovered. Soon I had my first DSLR and was offered a course to help develop my natural skills. A few years later and Patrick McGrath Photography was born.

Photography provides the ideal way for me to combine my passion for nature with my love of bush-walking.  My photos are a reflection of the beautiful semi-tropical environment I live in, from wild inland landscapes to pristine seascapes and unique Australian wildlife. I also love capturing the beauty of texture and shape within the everyday things I see around me.  I am grateful for the opportunity, through Patrick McGrath Photography, to now share my talent with a wider audience.  Perhaps you will even find something in my portfolio that captures a special place in your heart.

When I am not behind the camera I am usually hunting down old electrical gadgets, repairing broken computers or chuckling at my favourite YouTube channels. I love all kinds of music, eating pasta and pizza, and travelling to new places with my camera. My friends describe me as sometimes loud, sometimes quietly thoughtful, but always individual, with a wicked sense of humour that often catches people off guard. And to that, I would simply add “I get by with a little help from my friends”. Maybe I’ll see you out and about some time!
